About Us
On July 12th, 2007, Davids Fight was founded in memory of David Kinman, who passed away at the age of 37, from colorectal cancer.
At the age of 35, David was diagnosed with Stage IV rectal cancer. During the initial surgery, the Kinman family learned the cancer had spread to his liver, but further operation on the liver was not an option. During this time, David and his wife Braedi were expecting their first child, Cole. Given only 9 months to live, he beat the odds and survived 2 years. In spite of fighting with every ounce of his soul, David lost his battle to cancer on July 10, 2007. Throughout his battle David showed strength, dignity, and determination, and still provides inspiration to many today.
In January 2014, the name of the organization was changed to the Colon Cancer Foundation of Iowa, (CCFI). CCFI is a non-profit tax exempt charitable foundation created to fight colorectal cancer, 501(c)(3) Tax ID: 32-0222029. The mission is to build colorectal cancer awareness within our communities through public, physician, and patient education, utilizing a variety of different programs, activities and resources. Our goal is to provide the resources for those in need of our assistance.
CCFI works to provide assistance to those battling colorectal cancer. We collaborate with a variety of organizations and events during the year.
Snow Angels provides snow removal service to Iowans undergoing oxaliplatin chemotherapy treatments.
In the State of Iowa, colorectal cancer is the 4th most diagnosed cancer, but the 2nd leading cancer killer. Building awareness is the key to beating this disease. Colorectal cancer is the most preventable cancer, (90% preventable), but only if you are properly screened. Your support will help us accomplish this goal.
